Away in a Manger

Away in a Manger

What are some things that cause people to worry and be afraid?   What are some things that make you worried and afraid?

When our troubles, sufferings, or sins are on our mind, it can be hard for us to sleep.  The final stanza of the Christmas song “Away In A Manger” is a good bedtime prayer for us.  We ask Jesus to do some things for us.  Identify them and talk about how knowing Jesus will do these things helps us sleep in peace.

Use that final stanza as your bedtime prayer tonight, and also memorize Psalm 4:8: “I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.”

Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,

The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head.
The stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay,
The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.

The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes,
But little Lord Jesus, no crying he makes.
I love thee, Lord Jesus! Look down from the sky,
And stay by my side until morning is nigh.

Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask thee to stay
Close by me forever and love me, I pray.
Bless all the dear children in thy tender care,
And take us to heaven to live with thee there.
