About us.
Get to know more about who we are!
How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!

We Are Christians
The center of our faith and life is Jesus Christ. We believe that he was born, died and rose victorious as the world’s Savior from sin. All who look to him in faith share in the gift of eternal life.
Our History: Our church was founded in 1975 and at several locations until purchasing land on the west side of Lansing (our current property) in 1976. A few years later a modular chapel was placed on the site. In 1983 we built a multi-use building (now our fellowship hall) and added a lobby, sanctuary and offices in 1997. Our congregation is served by Pastor Joel Tullberg and Pastor Norm Burger.
We Are Lutherans
We believe in the historic Lutheran three-fold emphasis of grace alone, faith alone, and Scripture alone.
• By grace alone, we mean that salvation is purely a gift of God’s undeserved love for us.
• By faith alone, we mean that salvation comes through faith alone in Jesus Christ and not as the result of our own good works or effort.
• By Scripture alone, we mean that everything we need for faith and life is found in the Bible, the true and inspired Word of God.
Our Place in the WELS Family
Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church is part of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). The WELS is the third largest Lutheran church body in America. With national offices in Milwaukee, WELS began in 1850 when three German pastors met in the city. Today, it includes more than 340,000 men, women, and children in nearly 1,300 congregations across the United States and Canada, all united by a common faith in Christ’s saving love. WELS is also a founding member of the Confessional Evangelical Lutheran Conference (CELC), a worldwide fellowship of confessional Lutheran church bodies.
The Global Ministry We Support
The CELC is a global fellowship of churches that share complete unity in biblical doctrine and practice, and through it WELS partners in mission work around the world. WELS World Missions supports and encourages gospel outreach in nearly 50 countries across Africa, Asia-Oceania, Europe, and Latin America. As members of WELS, we share in our synod’s stated mission: to give all glory to God by upholding, defending, and proclaiming the truth of the Holy Scriptures, and by working together in joint mission efforts, training called workers, and supporting healthy congregations and schools through coordinated gospel ministry.
Our Church Family
Our Mission And Core Values
Our mission is to know Christ and make him known, as we believe that Christ is God the Son, whose suffering, death, and resurrection reveals the love of God for all mankind and is the basis of our eternal salvation. Our core values are Gather, Grow, and Go.
Gather
We value gathering together weekly in worship to hear God’s Word, find comfort and encouragement, and strengthen one another in faith.
Grow
We value growing in our faith and in our love for one another, building supportive relationships and learning more about God through His Word.
Go
We value going out into our families, friendships, community, and world to share God’s love and the gift of salvation through Christ.
