Serving the church with love

Pastor Norman Burger

I graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in 1984 and served two years as an instructor and coach at Northwestern College in Watertown, Wisconsin before coming to Lansing in 1986. I have served as a pastor at Shepherd of the Hills since then, and also serve our Michigan District as the Evangelism Coordinator.

I have been married to Betsy, an administrator at Lansing Community College, since 1991. We have two married adult sons, Ben and Mark.

I enjoy reading and sports of all kinds. I also enjoy meeting people and getting to know everyone’s unique personal story, and I especially enjoy sharing the story of how God showed how much he loved us when he sent his Son to be our Savior and rewrite the story of our lives with an eternally happy ending!

Pastor Joel Tullberg

I’ve had the privilege of serving at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church since 2011, when I was assigned here out of Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. It’s been a joy to grow together in faith with this congregation and to share Jesus with people of all ages and backgrounds.

I’m especially passionate about teaching Bible studies and preaching God’s Word. There’s nothing more meaningful than opening Scripture and seeing the good news of Jesus come to life – how he took our place, carried our sin, and gives us his righteousness. One of my favorite Bible verses is: “God made him, who did not know sin, to become sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God in him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)

I grew up in Milwaukee in a pastor’s household, and I’m grateful for the way God used that to prepare me for ministry. When I’m not preaching or teaching, you’ll often find me watching or playing sports, spending time hiking in nature, or enjoying a good spy novel.

I count it a blessing to serve as a pastor and to share the gospel with others every day. I’d love to meet you and hear your story.
