What Wondrous Love Is This (CW 120)

I John 4:7-10

10 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

1. This spiritual exclaims, “What wondrous love is this.” God’s love is agape love, true and lasting-a selfless, giving love without any thought of reciprocation. From where does this kind of love come (v. 7)?

2. How was God’s love manifested (v. 9)?

3. How is God’s love epitomized (v. 10)?

What Wondrous Love Is This (CW 120)

What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul!

What wondrous love is this, O my soul!

    What wondrous love is this

    That caused the Lord of bliss

To bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul,

To bear the dreadful curse for my soul!

When I was sinking down, sinking down, sinking down,

When I was sinking down, sinking down,

    When I was sinking down

    Beneath God’s righteous frown,

Christ laid aside His crown for my soul, for my soul,

Christ laid aside His crown for my soul.

To God and to the Lamb I will sing, I will sing;

To God and to the Lamb I will sing;

    To God and to the Lamb,

    Who is the great I AM,

While millions join the theme, I will sing, I will sing,

While millions join the theme, I will sing.

And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on;

And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on.

    And when from death I’m free,

    I’ll sing His love for me,

And through eternity I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on,

And through eternity I’ll sing on.
